Abel, John Jacob 1857-1938.
US biochemist, discoverer of adrenaline. He
studied the chemical composition of body
tissues, and this led, in 1898, to the
discovery of adrenaline, the first hormone to
be identified, which Abel called epinephrine.
He later became the first to isolate amino
acids from blood.
